Sir – What an impressive Remembrance Day wreath-laying ceremony in Witney this year, in such glorious sunshine, with such clear enunciation from the clergy and fine music from the Witney Town Band.
The service in St Mary’s Church that followed was equally impressive again, with all the clergy being involved and an impressive sermon from the visiting military padre, complete with military equipment including a cricket bat!
How it appealed to old and young alike. It was a timely reminder that the past and the future of Afghanistan are so important to us all.
If you want to learn more, then come to hear the great explorer and broadcaster John Pilkington giving an illustrated talk about his recent journey from Georgia to Afghanistan at Finstock Village Hall, in School Road, at 7.30pm on Saturday, December 8, with proceeds in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.
