Sir – Reviewing the notes I have kept on hunt monitoring, backing up camcorder evidence, there is plenty of confirmation of the Heythrop Hunt’s determination not to let a little thing like the law intervene when a good day’s hunting could be enjoyed.
Therefore it was no surprise to read Julian Barnfield’s absurd assertion that hunt monitors “are vigilantes following me around and filming me. I’m not allowed to follow them around Tesco and see if they steal a tin of beans” (Gazette, December 19 last year).
Whatever impression they seek to convey, hunting is a minority sport – if such barbarity can be deemed ‘sport’ – and the majority of the British public abhor it.
