Sir – I strongly object to Kevin Cambray’s statement (Gazette Letters last week) that the “general public could not care either way” about hunting. I am a member of the general public and detest this cruel activity.

I just cannot comprehend how people can get pleasure out of watching dogs tearing a frightened animal to bits.

You can therefore understand my delight on reading in the same edition that the National Trust (of which I am a member) has decided not to renew the Heythrop Hunt’s licence to use its land. Great news.
