Base 33 a credit to community

Sir – Base 33’s achievements for Witney's young people (Gazette Letters, February 27) are truly inspiring.

It is remarkable that a small local charity can engage annually with as many as 1,500 youngsters on the streets of Witney and Carterton, helping to reduce antisocial behaviour. The benefits for both the young people and for our community are tremendous.

Even more remarkable is the success of their Job Base project, helping more than 50 disadvantaged and vulnerable young people into work at a cost of less than £300 each.

This is an object lesson to larger and richer organisations and shows how well Base 33 manages its slender resources.

Claire Dowan and her team are a great credit to Witney.
