We should make more of Cogges play area
10:00am Wednesday 28th August 2013 in Letters
Sir – On Saturday, I spent some time with old and new friends at the Cogges Community Picnic by the park near Wadards Meadow.
It was great to see our children playing and socialising with each other and getting a great deal of exercise while they were at it.
As our son is growing up, having the park just down the road has been handy and we are grateful to have it.
Having said this though, it would be nice to see the area utilised to its full potential. Take Shilton Park in Carterton or Bury Knowle Park in Headington.
These offer large wooden climbing frames with sand pits, picnic benches and so much more.
There’s also a great play park in Long Hanborough that was built after local parents did the fundraising.
I am wondering if we could do something simular for Cogges play park?
Would the council think of modernising it and bringing it up to the standard of the other fine parks mentioned if local people or businesses could come up with the funds?
It would be lovely to have something that is a focal point for our community in Cogges.
I know that we have Cogges Manor Farm Museum and as season ticket holders we use it regularly, but for some, the cost is sadly going to be prohibitive and there’s also the fact that their last admission is 4.30pm, which in our house is just before prime playing time.
I would donate and help fundraise for such a project if others felt the same and would come on board.
I wonder what other local people think and whether the council would be in favour?
