Sir – You report that members and officers of West Oxfordshire District Council “are concerned about the potential impact of the Barton West housing proposals for Oxford on the A40" (Gazette, August 21).

Strangely, the council doesn’t seem to have the same concern regarding the 5,500 houses planned for Witney, plus possibly 700 more houses in Brize Norton parish (oddly designated Carterton East), and the ensuing effect.

The A40 cannot cope with the level of traffic currently.

Will the inhabitants of these developments be employed locally? The answer is obvious.
