Thanks to all who put community in pink

Sir – I would like to thank the many people who were involved in making the Against Breast Cancer Witney In The Pink event so special again this year.
The shop windows all looked fantastic. Many thanks to everyone who made such a great effort with their displays. The town looked great and the atmosphere was buzzing thanks to all the entertainers who so willingly gave up their time.
Thanks also to Laughing Stock for donating the balloons, the town Mayor Peter Dorward who opened the event, judged the best window display and best dressed shop staff, to Abingdon Town Crier Penny Clover and to Rosa’s Floral Designs for raising £680 by selling pink roses donated by one of their Dutch suppliers.
We raised over £6,500 on the day itself but as many shops and offices held raffles the money is still coming in and already we have exceeded last year’s total.
All money raised goes to fund the Diet and Lifestyle Study, taking place in 56 hospitals across the UK, including the Churchill Hospital in Oxford. The ultimate aim is to develop a vaccine against breast cancer.
This work is being carried out by the Against Breast Cancer Research Team at Westminster University and is funded entirely by public donations.
My sincere and heartfelt thanks to everyone who collected, helped with the stalls, and made cakes, with special thanks to the Witney Against Breast Cancer Action Group who organised the day, gave up a lot of time and put in a tremendous amount of effort to make the day so successful.
Last but by no means least, thank you to the people of Witney and the surrounding area who donated so generously.
Jeanne Chattoe, chairman Witney Action Team, chair of trustees Against Breast Cancer, Witney
