Sir – West Oxfordshire District Council needs to consider its response to the application to build 700 homes east of Carterton in Brize Norton parish very carefully, as its decision may have implications nationally with respect to noise pollution on other sites.
If a developer was to submit a planning application for a new airport, or an extension to an existing airport, with the predicted noise levels on a nearby settlement equivalent to those currently measured on the Carterton East site, then the planning application would be refused.
If the council approves this application it will be setting a dangerous precedent for all those developments where noise pollution could have a significant detrimental effect on nearby settlements and thereby blight the future lives of many people.
A planning application for a new development of 700 houses plonked within 750 metres of the arrivals and departures area of the UK’s busiest RAF base, which operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, should therefore be refused.
