Sir – Following my father’s recent death, it was decided that various items should go to charity. Sobell House hospice in Oxford was included in this as a way of thanking the staff at the Churchill Hospital for their undoubted care and support at a difficult time.

I did not expect staff at Sobell House’s Witney warehouse to be disinterested apart from opening up a bag to check it was not rubbish.

No help was provided unloading the bags and not even a thank you offered.

Perhaps the moral of this story is to only donate to charities which at least have the manners to be grateful.
