Sir – Congratulations to all the team who put together the Witney Festival of Food and Drink on Saturday.
What a fantastic event for the town to be really proud of. Local producers and retailers showing off what’s best in the local marketplace, all in one place in the beautiful Oxfordshire Cotswolds.
I do have a question, though. Why can’t this event be allowed to expand in the future on to Church Green, as well as use St Mary's Church?
There is clearly huge demand for local produce, and why are our councillors so against hosting events on Church Green?
To me it’s a perfect place for a select number of community events.
Was the land not gifted to the people of Witney many years ago for their benefit ?
It has been nine years since the last Witney Trade Fair, which was very successfully hosted in the town centre on Church Green. I say bring back the trade fair to the centre of Witney, along with community events like the Witney Festival of Food and Drink – community events in the centre of the community, I say.
Please contact me at chris@beautiful-group.co.uk if you think six community events a year should be regulated and allowed to use Church Green.
We’re already looking forward to next year’s festival.
