Sir – Last Wednesday night saw London Welsh RFC return to rugby union’s Aviva Premiership at the first time of asking.

This achievement should not be underestimated. Welsh overcame a 13-point deficit with 12 minutes to go against Leeds in the promotion play-off semi-final before defeating big-spending Bristol in both legs of the play-off final.

This success was achieved without the resources and financial advantages that their opponents enjoyed and I would like to congratulate everyone associated with the club.

Next season top-flight rugby teams and players will again be visiting the Kassam Stadium and I, for one, cannot wait.

Hopefully, the people of Oxfordshire will now start to think of London Welsh as ‘their’ team and show them the level of support they deserve for bringing Premiership rugby back to Oxford.
