Sir – I recently had cause to phone the NHS 111 advice number on a Sunday as I was feeling unwell.
As a result I was advised to go to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
After quite a wait to be seen, because I was classed low priority, I was admitted with pneumonia.
I’m writing this letter in praise of the treatment I received, both in hospital and when I returned home.
While in ward 6C I witnessed the staff doing an amazing job, under difficult circumstances.
They were short-staffed and at times subject to verbal abuse by some of the patients. Yet they remained calm and professional.
I was discharged after four days, but as I was still in need of intravenous antibiotics, I was referred to the Emergency Medical Unit at Witney Hospital.
They arranged for a lovely team of ladies called Hospital at Home to come to my home each day to administer the rest of my treatment.
I can’t praise all the medical professionals who were involved in my care highly enough.
We are very lucky to have this facility.
I have recently signed a petition to help keep our NHS, and with treatment like this I’m more than happy to do so.
Perhaps I was one of the lucky ones, but I really do want to say a great big thank you to everyone involved.
