Sir – In a letter, Stuart Macdonald asserts that councillor Duncan Enright, the Labour Party’s prospective Parliamentary candidate for the Witney constituency has a “new interest in fracking”; he further expresses surprise that Witney Labour Party had been “harbouring such concerns”.

As a party member, I can assure him that we’ve been concerned about the matter for some time.

To be sure of Duncan’s position, I emailed him (as Mr Macdonald could have done) and this was his response: “I am against fracking. I am not sure where he gets the idea I’m not.”

I hope Mr Macdonald isn’t going to make a habit of sniping from the sidelines; many of the Green Party's goals are shared by Labour; we just have different ideas for achieving them.
