Sir – After reading the article in last week’s Gazette about the proposed splash park in Witney Leys I can’t help but feel that the amount of money involved in this project is ludicrous – £230,000 pledged, £8,000 from previous fundraising initiatives and another £12,000 still to go?!
That’s a quarter of a million pounds.
The article quotes one of the supporters as describing the old paddling pool at The Leys as “basically just a hole in the ground.”
Well guess what: that’s all that small children need to have a great time splashing around in the sunshine.
So, instead of over-thinking this and wasting yet another summer (the article says the “adventure playground” will not be opening till August), why not give the old paddling pool a facelift: mend the cracks, give it a lick of paint, install a few benches and have it open by the end of May.
Tiny tots of Witney – and their parents – will be grateful. And all that surplus money can go to another worthy cause.
