Sir, I would like to thank you and your correspondent Martin Elvery for the excellent tribute to councillor Chrissie Curry on the front page of last week’s Witney Gazette and your poignant editorial.

I and her family owe the deepest gratitude to the superb staff and doctors at the Sir Michael Sobell Hospice in Oxford who gave us three unexpected weeks to cherish her before the inevitable. Their love and understanding surpasses all expectations.

May I also congratulate all the girls at Junction in Corn Street who raised a huge amount of money on Saturday in memory of Chrissie for Sobell House. They were busy outside all day in blustery weather selling cakes and raffling a wagon load of prizes donated by an amazing number of local business people and friends.

To the brilliant people of Witney who have been calling, coming up to me in the street, sending cards etc, my heartfelt thanks for your support and friendship.
