Sir – We were left in no doubt of Mr Paul Harwood’s political leanings when he laid the blame for Wood Green School’s failings squarely with David Cameron and Michael Grove, (Letters, June 17).

The truth is that he should look a little closer to home and consider the abilities of those who are actually running schools.

Ofsted figures show that the proportion of UK schools rated good or outstanding is at its highest level on record. There are currently over a million more children in good or outstanding schools than at the end of the 2010 government.

Mr Harwood describes the “increasingly desperate plight of Wood Green School that is unfolding”. He couldn’t be more wrong.

It is a couple of years ago that Wood Green was put into special measures. Since then, under the new leadership of head Mr Rob Shadbolt, the school has significantly improved.

The school underwent a further inspection last week and whilst the results are not yet made public, the Witney community will soon see the benefits of the hard work and dedication of Mr Shadbolt’s team.
