Sir – We recognise that Old Woodstock Town Football Club (OWFTC) has every right to say publicly whatever they may wish but only if their comments do not appear to have an odour of mendacity about them.

I refer to vice-chairman Neil Roberts’ statement: “A minority of of local people object to the plans but the majority have always been in favour.”

I am at a loss to know how he could make such an egregious statement when some 1,000 concerned citizens of Woodstock have filed objections to the Pye-Blenheim plans to concrete over the productive farmland on the outskirts of Woodstock on the SE approach to the town, whereas, only some 60 or so representations favouring this development have been registered by supporters of the football club.

All these may be viewed in their entirety on Cherwell District Council’s website.

Over the years, the majority of Woodstock residents have never been in favour of such massive developments on the perimeters of the town as shown by town polls, town surveys and at town meetings.

We are not against the football club in principle and hope it lasts another 105 years, but not at the expense of the evisceration of Woodstock.
