SIR – In a recent edition of the Witney Gazette, a “waste and recycling survey” was featured.

The current contract for recycling is up for review in 2017 and the council wants to evaluate the collection service.

I look forward to a system where we can dispose of our items in one wheelie bin and have the content sorted elsewhere. This would have many advantages for all concerned. Householders would not have to carry several boxes out to the kerbside each week. There would be no more noisy and messy sorting at the curb side. And I’m sure that there would be a very noticeable reduction in the amount of litter along the roads.

As for collections of garden rubbish, it seems that the council is considering the introduction of an annual charge of between £25 and £35 for this service if a householder requests it.

It is an interesting survey and I hope that more readers will take the time to take it at the council’s reception points or online at www.westoxon.gov.uk/residents/bins-recycling/.
