Police lacked interest

Sir – My wife and I have recent experience of Chief Inspector Colin Paine’s officers and their enthusiasm for pursuing burglars (Witney Gazette, April 25).

We’ve had a couple of stone plant pots containing mature box bushes, which are quite expensive, stolen from the front of our house.

We went to Witney Police Station to report it, but they showed so much interest that we were rebuffed, sent away and told to telephone. In other words, they weren’t interested at all.

Perhaps if we had been able to establish that the culprits exceeded the speed limit while making their escape, there might have been a bit more interest. Ralph Ingham-Johnson, Witney

burglaries dont seem to be important to the police my husbands bicycle was recently stolen from our garden and we were basically told there has been alot of buglaries of this kind in the area and the chances are they will never recover his bicycle.
