We need better offer than allotment

Sir – Fresh from the cancellation of the Cogges Link Road , I see Mr Mawle is gunning for a new jackpot in the form of planning permission to build houses on 100 acres of land at the edge of Witney (Witney Gazette , September 5).
Far from opposing the Cogges Link Road for the right reasons, Mr Mawle seems to have opposed this road for the purposes of selling farmland for housing.
In return for the type of financial return he is after, perhaps a more appropriate donation could be made?
Something along the lines of an acre for a new community woodland in return for each acre of housing as well as the three-and-a-half acres of allotment land?
