Questions on Link Road

Sir – I wonder if the Campaign to Protect Rural England was fully aware of James Mawle’s position on the Cogges Link Road and his subsequent proposal to build more houses (Witney Gazette , September 5)?

I think that the CPRE owes the people of Witney an explanation as to why it seems intent on causing more traffic congestion in Witney, when yet more housing development is proposed without the roads to support it.

Also, I think the council should go back to the Government now they have new evidence. If not, they should stand up to Mr Mawle and fight his scheme all the way and not be bought off by a few allotments.

The plan for the houses was on their website for all to see but nobody seemed interested at drawing attention to it - unfortunately most people were drawn into other arguments about the road with the housing development conveniently in the background - it's nice to see some people have eventually woken up to the simple fact that the Mawle Trust didn't want to have to sell the land for the road which would have prevented houses being built, but instead continue to push for the Shores Green junction which will allow all the green belt land to be built on as it then becomes part of the town and therefore the land will be more valuable to them - when people offer something for free it is good to be suspicious as nothing is free !!!!!!!!!
