Poor pavements are a pain
10:00am Wednesday 3rd October 2012 in Letters
Sir – Everyone in the country is aware that there is no money available for health, roads and education but these are all areas where money is badly needed.
I suffer with a painful spine disorder and every time I venture out on my mobility scooter the problem is made a lot worse by the state of the pavements in Witney.
I get shaken and jarred about, with each bump hurting my back and if it is like that for me, then there are a large number of people that it must affect as well, including mothers with young children who cannot afford a state-of-the-art pushchair with good suspension.
There have been times when I have come home in tears. It is not just the surface that we have to contend with, There are places where you almost tip over because of the camber of the pavements, which takes over your steering.
I’m sure money could be found if it wasn’t wasted on things like the Cogges Link Road. Just think how many metres of pavements that would have paid for to be repaired.
Should anyone from the council wish to borrow my scooter to see for themselves just what we have to put up with, then please contact me.

There is plenty of money 'available' for health, roads and education.
'A far-reaching new study by the Tax Justice network suggests a staggering $21tn in assets has been lost to global tax havens. If taxed, that could have been enough to put parts of Africa back on its feet – and even solve the euro crisis'.
