Shopping spree sunk

Sir – A light-hearted verse about parking in Witney:

I feel like going on a shopping spree

As I drive towards the picturesque market town of Witney, I see the sign ‘Car park at Woodford Way’

But when I arrived it said full, to my dismay.

Next stop the High Street, opposite the taxi rank, I am sure to get one there.

I need to do some shopping but only 30 minutes’ parking, not enough time to spare.

Alas, I thought, I will try the multi-storey, at least the parking is free.

But when I arrive at the barrier, the sign said no spaces,

It was not a pretty sight to see the look on the drivers’ faces.

One last chance, I thought, would be to use the parking bays near Church Green but to my disappointment only two-hour waiting.

No good to me, with traffic wardens at the ready, stop-watch in hand.

I drove away from town with a wallet full of money.

But nowhere to park and spend it, which is not very funny.

Maybe I will park down the Leys and walk back into town.

But no, too late, that was full as well.

Well that’s enough, what the hell.

Back home, have a cup of tea.

Park the car, then get the bus back to Witney.
