3:25pm Thursday 1st February 2001
STUDENTS at Sir John Lawes School in Harpenden now have the ideal place in which to cram in a few hours extra study time after lessons have finished.
A study support club, which will be run every weekday from 3.45pm until 5pm, started this week. It will be staffed by a librarian and a member of the learning support team, who will be on hand to help pupils tackle a variety of challenging homework tasks.
Students will have access to the Manland Way school's extensive ICT equipment, including the internet, as well as all the library's more traditional resources.
Study support librarian Rhian Trevor described club as "a huge bonus for the children at Sir John Lawes".
She said: "It provides an opportunity for every child within the school to have equal access to an environment that is supportive of their work.
"We provide somewhere comfy with access to our superb library facilities and ICT network as well as someone on hand to provide help and encouragement.
"The atmosphere is fun and friendly but has the clear aim of getting the work done efficiently and effectively."
The club was opened by County Councillor Bernard Lloyd, who cut a special cake to mark the occasion.
