PUPILS at North Leigh Primary School near Witney tucked into an entire Tudor banquet.

The school was converted into a Shakespearean world on Monday as The Oxfordshire County Music Service played the Tudor hit parade on period instruments, including Henry VIII’s love ballad Green Sleeves, while children danced along.

Jamie Bush, eight, said: “My favourite bit was the dancing.”

Pupils also tucked into sweet and savoury mince pies, ginger bread and pottage (vegetable soup) which they had made themselves and all of their work on the Tudors from this term was displayed around the school.

Thomas Francklin, eight, said: “I really did enjoy it, I liked the soup best. I had two bowls.”

Cameron Sinclair-Eckett, eight, said: “The best bit was Tudor dancing.”

For their study of the Tudor period, students built miniature Tudor houses, painted the famous faces of the day and learned Tudor songs and dances which they performed on the night.

Tilly Gidney, 10, said: “The dancing and the tudor banquet was really fun.”

Rosie Burkey, nine, added: “I really enjoyed tasting all the different Tudor foods and dancing.”

School secretary Claire Merriman said: “It went really well. Everyone enjoyed it.”
