A BOOKLET celebrating Witney’s global reputation in the blanket industry has just been released.
Keith Crawford, a descendant of the Early family of blanket makers and a member of the Rotary Club of Witney, has written The Story of Witney Blankets to help celebrate the club’s 60th anniversary.
It includes details about the day-to-day lives of workers and the sites of the mills, as well as photographs.
Club president Mike Alexander said: “It will help the younger generation learn something of the importance of blanket making to Witney.”
The booklet costs £2 but free copies have been given to year five and six pupils at Witney’s primary schools.
It is on sale at Witney Visitor Information Centre in Welch Way, Cogges Manor Farm, Witney & District Museum and Cotswold Woollen Weavers at Filkins.
