MEMBERS of North Leigh WI held a party to celebrate the organisation’s 95th anniversary.
Current president Wendy Goddard and Ann Buckingham, who held the position in 1973 cut a birthday cake at the event in the Memorial Hall on Tuesday, October 14.
North Leigh WI was founded in October 1919 by Lady Evelyn Mason, of Eynsham Hall, at the old school room in Church Road.
There were 97 women at the inaugural meeting and membership grew to 137 by the following February. The current membership is 34.
Mrs Goddard said: “Celebrating the 95th birthday of our WI was a very memorable and happy occasion. It was wonderful to have so many past members and visitors share it with us.”
An exhibition of items from the WI’s archives, including scrapbooks and photographs, will be held at the hall on Sunday, from 10am to 5pm. Entry is free of charge.
