EVENTS took a spooky twist at Leckford Place School as young actors rehearsed Edgar Allan Poe’s Masque of the Red Death.

Youngsters from across Oxfordshire have spent half-term at the school learning three plays with the help of Creation Theatre and will put on their end-of-week performance at 3.30pm today.

Ten-year-old Eloise Greenacre said: “I do a lot of drama, it is my favourite lesson.

“I love how you can be whoever you want to be and we do not have to be embarrassed.

“If you are a girl you can play a boy and nobody cares.

“The workshop went really well, it was really fun.”

Eloise, a pupil at St Hugh’s School in Faringdon, added: “We went through our third play today, it was about a black cat.

“We all switch around and we all have a chance at playing the main character which means we get a fair amount of lines. All three of the plays were quite scary.”

Creation Theatre education manager Josh Ward said: “It is based around Halloween every October half-term. I’ve always wanted to do Edgar Allen Poe but this is the first time the kids have chosen it, which is great.”
