A MAN was killed when his car and a van collided in Witney yesterday.

The man, described as elderly by a witness, was driving his Suzuki Swift on the A415 Ducklington Lane southbound when he collided with a Vauxhall Vivaro van on the opposite carriageway shortly before 9.50am.

The van was pushed back into a temporary metal fence in a construction area that was part of the work to improve the four-way junction at Ducklington Lane.

Workman Steve Hoskin, 38, said he heard an “almighty bang” and went to the victim’s help.

He said: “There was smoke everywhere and I tried to help him with other people before the ambulance came. I tried what I could.”
