RAF Brize Norton has been given an award for minimising noise.

The airbase won the Best Environmental Initiative Award at the Airport Operators Association’s 80th anniversary conference in London on November 10.

It was given in recognition of the work of the base to reduce noise and for building relationships with the wider community.

The airfield operates 24 hours a day, but the station has put in several measures to cut noise without affecting safety.

Restrictions are in place on running or testing aircraft on the ground, and station executives say that at night they only conduct those that are operationally essential.

Aircraft are also towed around the airfield to further reduce engine noise.
