A LORRY driver has been fined for ignoring a weight limit on the bridge over the River Evenlode in Charlbury.
Alan Moss was spotted by an Oxfordshire County Council trading standards enforcement officer on May 8 driving an 18-tonne lorry over the bridge.
A 7.5-tonne weight limit was imposed in July 2012 after highways engineers found signs of damage to some of the bridge’s stonework.
Moss, 55, of Sapphire Close, Tuffley, in Gloucester, admitted the offence at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Monday last week.
He was fined £250 and told to pay £130 costs and a £25 victim surcharge. He was one of seven drivers fined a total of £1,850 for ignoring restrictions on bridges.
Charlbury & Wychwood councillor Rodney Rose, the deputy leader of the council, who has cabinet responsibility for trading standards, said: “Those who choose to flout road weight limit and vehicle weight limit regulations are committing irresponsible acts and I hope that the fines given on this occasion act as a deterrent to others.”
