A 38-year-old man was stabbed in the stomach in Banbury in what police have described as a "shocking assault."
The victim was approached by a man in his forties just before 3pm on Wednesday near Jubilee Court and stabbed in the stomach with what is thought to have been a black handled lock knife.
The victim received treatment at the John Radcliffe Hospital and has since been discharged.
It is believed the men may know each other.
The offender took £200 in cash from the victim and fled in a silver BMW 1 Series.
Thames Valley Police said the man was black, in his forties, about 5 ft 7 in, slim with short dark hair and a thick beard.
He was wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and black footwear.
Investigating officer, Det Con Richard Lewis said: "This is a shocking assault but I want to reassure the community that we are conducting a thorough investigation to find the perpetrator and bring him to justice.
"Incidents such as these are rare and on this occasion we believe that the offender may know the victim."
Anyone with information should contact the police on 101.
