FORMER Henley MP Boris Johnson is riding high as bookies' favourite to be the next Prime Minister.

Oxford bookmaker Betfred is offering odds of four to five that blonde bombshell Bojo will be this county's next leader after David Cameron steps down in the autumn, following his defeat in the EU referendum.

Conservative Boris, pictured campaigning for Oxford West and Abingdon MP Nicola Blackwood last year, is up against home secretary Theresa May, and fellow Tory MPs Michael Gove and George Osborne.

Betfred odds on the next Prime Minister of Great Britain:

Boris Johnson 4/5

Theresa May 1/3

Micahel Gove 6/1

Andrea Leadsom 6/1

Stephen Crabb 14/1

Liam Fox 25/1

George Osborne 28/1

Priti Patel 28/1

Jeremy Corbyn 50/1

Nigel Farage 50/1

The leader of the opposition, Jeremy Corbyn, currently facing a leadership crisis over his lacklustre campaign in the EU referendum, currently has the same odds to be the next Prime Minister as UKIP leader Nigel Farage, who is not a Member of Parliament.

Oxfordshire County Council cabinet member David Nimmo Smith today tweeted a picture of himself with tousle-haired Boris and the caption "The next PM?" to which Bicester Traffic Advisory Group replied: "Booooooo".

Witney Gazette:

Boris Johnson, like David Cameron, went to Oxford University and joined the notorious Bullingdon Club. He was elected as MP for Henley twice, in 2001 and 2005.

He went on to become Mayor of London from 2008 until this year, and lead the Leave campaign in the EU referendum.

He has not yet declared any intention to run as David Cameron's successor, but tellingly he made a public statement about the Prime Minister's resignation just hours after the announcement in which he praised the Witney MP for his leadership.
