Protesters draped in yellow and blue EU flags have taken to the streets of Oxford this afternoon to protest the referendum result and support the right of non-UK nationals to stay following the vote.

The 'Oxford Stays' rally in Broad Street was officially 'cancelled' on Facebook but scores of locals turned out anyway from 5.30pm.

The event was supported by the Oxfordshire Green Party, which also expressed concern for key rights and environmental regulations following the Leave decision on June 23.

Dr Hazel Dawe, chairwoman of Oxfordshire Green Party's European Campaign Committee, said: “Oxford didn’t vote for Brexit so the majority of people in the city are very unhappy.

“Anyone who is not British-born living in the city currently feels unwanted and we need to make them know they are appreciated.”
