A HOPSCOTCHY group of schoolchildren dressed in costume met yesterday morning for a delumptious start to Roald Dahl Day.
Year 6 pupils at Windmill Primary School took charge of the breakfast club and encouraged their peers to dress as their favourite characters as part of a global celebration for the 100th anniversary of the author's birth.
Libraries across Oxfordshire held special events to mark the day, with youngsters in Bicester Library making their own Mr Twit beards and Wonka creations.
Participants at the Headington school brought along their favourite novels, including Fantastic Mr Fox, The Twits and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Headteacher Lynn Knapp said: "It has been really nice to hear the children talking about Roald Dahl and his stories.
"They have done lots of talking about their books and sharing their favourites."
Young participant Sarah Askew said: "I like Roald Dahl because of his creativity and fantasy stories.
"My favourite is The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me as it's fun, interesting and makes me laugh."
