FAMILIES had to double-take as they flit between shops in Witney, as a tiny farming ambassador trotted into view.

Miniature Shetland stallion Mr Fuddles, something of a celebrity in the town, attracted attention during a visit to Woolgate Shopping Centre on Saturday.

The petite pony greeted passersby under the clock tower, to promote next month's Oxfordshire Young Farmers' County Show and Rally.

People were able to pet him in his enclosure outside Waitrose.

Writing on his very own Instagram page, Mr Fuddles said: "I'm modelling my very swish new rug courtesy of Granny.

"Please do pop down and say hello."

This year the annual county show will be hosted by Witney Young Farmers' Club in Ducklington, featuring a packed programme of entertainment, displays, competitions and crafts.

More than 7,000 people are expected to attend the event on Saturday, May 26.

The county's Young Farmers' clubs, for youngsters aged between 10 and 26, take turns in hosting the event each year.

The line-up includes a dog show, terrier racing and parade of vintage machinery, as well as craft and food stalls and farming-themed activities.

Visitors can learn how to milk a cow, watch chicks hatching and take part in clay pigeon shooting.

The event raises money for a number of chosen charities across the UK, and is the group's biggest fundraising event.

There will also be a display of the latest agricultural machinery, in contrast with a nostalgic look back at tractors and farm vehicles of decades past.
