Making sure children and sitting safely
7:00pm Friday 22nd June 2012 in Headlines
ROAD safety teams have been making sure young children are sitting safely in their car seats.
Oxfordshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service has been at supermarkets across Oxfordshire this week to offer advice and help.
They helped parents make sure child seats were properly fitted, and were appropriate for the car and the child’s age and size.
The sessions are part of National Child Safety Week, which is organised by the Child Accident Prevention Trust.
Road safety officer Wendy Jennings said: “It was an opportunity to proactively approach parents who have not considered they might need some help.
“The checks showed us that about three out of four child seats are not being used as well as they ought to be.”
She warned: “That will either affect the protection the seat offers or could result in additional injuries to the child.”
