Authors gather for Blenheim literary festival

THE Blenheim Palace Literary Festival at Woodstock will get under way today.
Husband and wife Ross and Melanie King will be among the first speakers to be welcomed to the festival by deputy chairman Jill Dunsmore.
Mrs King is the author of the intriguingly titled Can Onions Cure Ear-ache? which examines Medical Advice from 1769.
Her husband Ross is at the festival to tell the story of one of the world’s best known works of art, The Last Supper, the subject of his new book.
The couple did not have to travel very far as they live in the town.
Mr King said: “It’s nice to be surrounded by beauty, especially when you’re writing about architecture and art.”
The festival is due to open with a talk by Roger McGough, the poet and one-time member of the 1960s group The Scaffold.
Other festival highlights include an appearance by Elkie Brooks, who will sing in The Orangery at the Palace on Sunday after talking with broadcaster David Freeman about her new book Finding My Voice.
