THE Post Office has earmarked 22 branches across Oxfordshire for closure, we can reveal.
Wantage MP Ed Vaizey said Post Office managers had given the number during a meeting with MPs today.
The list is officially supposed to be revealed on Tuesday but Mr Vaizey named five of them tonight.
They are sub post offices in Childrey, Upton, Long Wittenham, Fyfield and Ardington.
Post Office Ltd will put the fate of the branches up for consultation for six weeks, but the Government has a figure of 2,500 to close.
Mr Vaizey said: "The post office is very serious about the closures. It isn't bluffing.
"It's putting up 22 post offices because it expects 22 post offices to close. I think we face a tough fight to change their mind."
