A CHARITY shop gutted in an arson attack was re-opened by Witney MP David Cameron.
Mr Cameron and Mayor of Witney Chrissie Curry visited Sobell House Hospice charity shop, in Langdale Court, Witney, on Friday, to see it open its doors after an extensive refurbishment.
The shop, and next-door shop Figments, were severely damaged by the blaze in June. After an appeal Sobell House was given a temporary home in Corn Street by the Witney Charities group.
Mr Cameron was the shop's first customer, buying a DVD for his children.
Kevin Game, of Sobell House, said: "We were very pleased to have David Cameron and to see the community turn out in force. It was a really good community day, the crowds were five or six deep.
"It's great to be back in Langdale Court again. It was fantastic that everyone pulled together and we were allowed to use the shop in Corn Street temporarily, but not so many people know about it so it's nice to be back on our own turf."
Mrs Curry said: "It's terrific they are back in the shop in just six months. The shop was mobbed with people trying to get through the doors. David Cameron made a very eloquent speech about the good work hospices do which I wholeheartedly agree with."
If you would like to become a volunteer at one of Sobell's charity shops, or would like to make a donation, you can call the Sobell House Hospice Charity office on 01865 857007.
