A POPULAR headteacher has announced plans to retire at the end of the year.
Patrick Sanders, pictured, head- teacher at Burford Comprehensive School and Community College, will step down in December. He informed governors of his plans on Monday.
Mr Sanders, 57, has been head of the school since 1995. He was previously headteacher at the Cotswold School, in Bourton-on-the- Water.
He said: "This December I will have been a headteacher for 20 years. It's a great job, and I want to leave while I still think it's a great job. I have been thinking about retiring for some time, and made my decision over the Christmas holiday."
The school's governors will meet on Monday to plan their search for a new headteacher. The successful candidate will start at Burford in January, 2008.
