STAFF on a mission to entertain visitors at tourist attraction Blenheim Palace have created a new film trail.

It follows the premier of Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, which hit cinemas yesterday, with scenes from the action movie starring Tom Cruise filmed at the palace in Woodstock.

The Lights, Camera, Action tour and trail will take place on Mondays from 2pm to 2.45pm and on Saturday from 3pm to 3.45pm.

Visitors will be able to see how and where the latest Mission Impossible film in the franchise was shot and learn all about filming at the palace.

The palace was a backdrop for key scenes in the movie and five members of staff played minor roles, with one shot needing 30 different takes.

Other blockbusters filmed at the palace include Spectre, the new James Bond film starring Daniel Craig, Gulliver’s Travels, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Young Victoria.

The tour will reveal to visitors methods of filming and how crews operate on set.

Head of education Karen Wiseman said: “Blenheim Palace has played host to many film and TV crews over the years and the specialist tour shares with visitors the secrets of filming, taking care of the palace, and how the crews operate on set.

“Filming can also cause a knock-on effect to Woodstock and beyond.

“Lighting during the filming of Mission: Impossible caused problems for Oxford Airport, creating a distraction to incoming planes.

“As a consequence, red warning lights had to be fixed to the top of huge cranes.”

Filming of last year’s movie A Little Chaos, about a female landscape gardener in the court of King Louis XIV, created excitement when actor and director Alan Rickman carried out a location recce in February 2013.

This alerted Harry Potter fans at the palace as one of Mr Rickman’s best known roles to date was playing Professor Severus Snape in the films inspired by JK Rowling’s best-selling children’s books.

Ms Wiseman added: “The talk will explain exactly what happens at Blenheim Palace when Hollywood descends and will also look at how TV documentaries and films are made, sometimes involving the colourful characters who work there.”

A crew of about 300 for the the Bollywood film Fan, starring Shah Rukh Khan – sometimes known as Bollywood’s Tom Cruise – also attracted lots of attention in March.

Spy thriller Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation is the fifth instalment in the series and is written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie.

Last year, Tom Cruise sought advice from personnel at RAF Benson for the futuristic movie Edge of Tomorrow.
