STAFF at a day centre in Carterton have thanked a pub that helped raise nearly £3,000 for the service during a special event.

The Vines, in Black Bourton, held Vinestock at the end of last month, a day of music and fun for the community.

The event raised £2,894 for Carterton Day Centre for the Elderly, a facility which provides a place for the elderly to socialise and stay active.

Manager Lyn Stanley said: “We’ve recently lost a lot of funding and need to be self sufficient. We’re running on about half of what we had.

“A lot of people would be isolated at home if it wasn’t for the service provided by the day centre.

“We raised so much money at this event. It was phenomenal.”

Reg Neal, 87, of Carterton, is one of the people to benefit from the day centre.

He said: “I’d be very lonely if I didn’t come to the day centre.

“I’ve made a lot of staff here and I very much appreciate the effort that is being put into it by people.

“The day centre has really been my salvation.”
