TEMPERATURES are expected to plummet in the coming days, and a warning has been issued for people to look after themselves and others as the winter turns even colder.

Public Health England has reminded people to check on elderly residents, while local health services are providing advice via social media as the mercury dips to as low as -4C.

It will continue to get colder after the weekend, with the Met Office predicting spells of -4C on Wednesday in the county.

Warnings for snow are in force for parts of the south, but do not yet extend as far as Oxfordshire.

Dr Thomas Waite, of PHE’s Extreme Events team said: “As forecasters tell us next week temperatures will fall, it’s critical that if you know anyone over 65, with young children or who has heart or lung conditions, that you keep an eye on them and think what help they may need.”
