Happy diamond years

THE beginning of a life together started at a dance in Hanborough village hall when Percy Maisey took an eye to a certain girl.

After courtship, Percy, now 85, and Doris, 79, married at St Mary's church in North Leigh on July 24, 1947, and so last month celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.

The couple have lived at High Cogges for the past 34 years, though they began their marriage in a bungalow and smallholding in North Leigh.

They have lived all their lives in West Oxfordshire, Doris hailing originally from East End, North Leigh, and Percy just a few miles down the road, in Bladon.

They have a son, Peter, and daughter, Wendy, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Both are still members of West Witney Bowls Club, he becoming president and men's captain, and Doris the ladies captain.

Percy, who is a keen gardener, worked for 50 years with Oxford builders Knowles and son, starting with them as an apprentice joiner.
