Cycling saves time

A TEST undertaken by cycling group West Oxon CTC showed that pedalling into Witney town centre on a Saturday morning can be up to 15 minutes quicker than going by car.

The event was inspired by a 60-second commercial being shown in cinemas, called CycleHero, about a 'cycling pied piper' trying to convert motorists into greener transport.

West Oxon CTC spokesman, Brigitte Hickman, said: "We are not anti-car, but with the recent extreme weather, it is becoming clear that a better balance needs to be struck. There has never been a better time to cycle."

The group also found that local people want better, well-designed cycle paths, and better parking facilities for their cycles.
