WORK has started on improvement £170,000 work at Charlbury station, on the Cotswold Line.
It involves a new footpath and lighting from Dyers Hill and the station approach road, as well as resurfacing some of the car park to allow more parking spaces.
There will also be more security and safety fencing under the scheme funded by the county council, with a contribution from train operators First Great Western.
Ian Hudspeth, county cabinet member for transport, said: "Improvements are long overdue."
Further work at the station, one of the busiest on the Cotswold Line, depends on a successful bid to the Department of Transport later this year.
Richard Rowland, FGW regional manager, said: "Charlbury is an important station for us.
"We have already renovated the listed station building."
