THE new Witney Fairtrade Action Group has now gathered the signatures of 1,800 people to get the town designated with Fairtrade status.
More than 20 retailers in the town now supply their products, and the group is planning a series of events to promote the campaign.
It held a quiz evening in The House of Windsor pub, West End, with Green party town councillor Richard Dossett-Davies acting as quizmaster.
"We had Fairtrade wines and beers, including BeeWyched, brewed using Fairtrade sugar and honey by the Wychwood Brewery," he said.
They are planning food-tasting sessions during Fairtrade Fortnight, February 25 to March 9, and a market in the Langdale Hall on March 15.
