A REDEVELOPMENT scheme is in the planning pipeline for a garage site in the centre of Woodstock.
Berkeley Homes is seeking permission to build 30 homes, a shop, and a new town health centre on land at Youngs Garage, in Oxford Street.
But the town council has already declared 'significant reservations' about the scheme, according to new town mayor Peter Jay. He said: "The Woodstock practice tell us they are unhappy about what is being proposed for them, and that is an important issue," he added.
The current surgery in old premises at Park Lane is considered too cramped to meet new practice requirements.
Doctors are keen to find a new site in the town. Berkeley Homes have submitted a detailed application for the scheme to West Oxfordshire District Council. The town council meets tomorrow to frame formal comments.
Youngs Garage was built on the site of the town's old rail station, and the business has already been scaled down.
