DISCOUNT operators Lidl face rejection for a new store in Witney.
Their application to build a 1,000 square metre outlet next to McDonald's, in Ducklington Lane, comes before West Oxfordshire District Council's lowlands planning sub-committee next Monday.
Letters of support and protest have come in to the council, but planning officer Phil Shaw is recommending refusal.
Although he says the store would not harm existing shops in the town, he adds there are real worries about the impact on the local road network, as well as poor building designs.
Another discount store operator, Aldi, is expected to put in planning application soon for an outlet in Carterton.
